Cambridge Gatherings -
The Cambridge OSB Group met at the Red Lion Grantchester (November 2025). John Braithwaite (G 65-69) reports: “Five OSBs out of a now core group of nine, from Cambridge and the surrounding area as far as the Wash, returned to the convenient Red Lion Pub in Grantchester, next to the river Cam. Grantchester is famous for the early 20th century intellectuals including Rupert Brooke, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Bertrand Russell, Virginia Wolf and others meeting under the apple trees in the Orchard Tea Garden. There is ample parking, ease of entry from the M11, and the pub has plenty of room. The staff know us now and provide a table in a large room just for ourselves and switch off the piped music. At our 13th meeting in August, Brian Powell (FN 50-54) had the young waitresses in stitches with his irresistible charm. We also meet in various cosy central Cambridge pubs, but we decided for our 14th meeting to return to the Red Lion.

Robert Middleton (FN 50-54) is very kindly offering for a second time to host us all on his boat on the Broads in 2026. This summer we spent the night near his boat and were blessed with great weather thanks to the breeze for sailing. We are hoping that Pam can join us in January when she drops her daughter off for the Lent term. We always meet at 7:30 pm once traffic has died down, and midweek when the pubs and restaurants are quieter. We normally gather every four to eight weeks and are very open to other St Beghians joining us. Please do get in touch with me for further information - 07717209399 or braithwaite.john@icloud.com.
